Creating a custom event gives more power to you, the role-player to create a world of your liking. TPC offers you the ability to have almost complete control of the role-play itself and how your presence in the world effects those around you. This sparked the idea that you can control major events that occur in the RP time-line, as long as a moderator gives the go ahead.
Why a Custom Event?
An event of your creation gives you a lot more creative control over what your character does, their actions can not only affect themselves, but could potentially affect everyone on the forum and TPC as a whole. An empowering feeling? Definitely, and that's what we want. We want you to have the ability to say 'I want to feel powerful, strong and a force to be heard' both in and out of character, thus giving you the ability to make changes within the role-play world that has a direct impact on those around you.
These events cannot directly control the actions of another player character, nor can it so heavily influence another member that they have to make alterations to their own development, but it can have an impact on all those who would be concerned, as long as it has been green-lit by a member of staff. Need some more info? Here's an example.
Say I wished to create an event where the Mayor of a small town in Germany is killed by yourself or someone you compelled to do so – you could apply to carry this out. Now a mayor is usually a high ranking member of society and more importantly, his/her life is valuable, therefore you'd need to make sure that a number of conditions are met, but providing they are and a moderator accepts the event, you can continue to role-play the demise of this mayor. Of course, any other members in the area would be affected by your actions, if they're a Vampire for instance – the heightened security after the mayor's death would mean they'd need to react to this and cause them to act differently – this is your doing, you're the one holding the cards, this is your time. Of course, the death of a mayor would most likely become regional, perhaps even international news and throughout the supernatural world, if word catches on you'd done something worthy of making the news – your name will spread and suddenly, your reputation will be on the rise.
Why the need to apply?
Whilst giving control to the member is the point of custom events, it also opens the door for a lot of 'god-modding' and unwanted intrusions, it also may be inconvenient to have an event that conflicts another storyline or event that is occurring courtesy of another member. It may also simply come down to you, you may not have proven yourself worthy of carrying out something as bold as you're attempting, therefore we staff need a way of controlling, at least to some level the direction of the role-play.
Let's break it down, if you're a new character who comes into the world and instantly murders a town of people – a town of people that have been incorporated into someone else's story – this means they've spent a whole lot of time for nothing. Not to mention, as perhaps a freshly turned vampire you may be hungry, but you're far from strong at this point and the ability to mass-murder settlements is far from believable. This kind of storyline takes time to build up, time to prepare and most importantly a lot of role-playing to convince moderators it's the right decision.
Typically for an event worth applying for you'll need some period of role-playing leading up to the event to show the motives behind it, you'll need a solid plan and to be a strong enough presence in the role-play world to carry it out. If you don't tick all these boxes, back to the drawing board. If you've only just joined the role-play, consider spending some time developing your character before applying for any event that could potentially ruin all chances of development after for yourself and others.
How will it be accepted?
A moderator will check your application and take into account all the factors that play a part in the event taking place, then weight up the impacts your event will have, what future problems could be encountered as a result of your character performing the proposed actions and will it effect any other members in a negative way? Once they've made a decision they'll choose to either 'Accept' or 'Deny'. Unlike your character application, you don't need multiple moderators to accept your proposal and it will not be graded, simply accepted or denied. In order to successfully create an event, you'll need to cover each point listed below and use the template provided here.
Name of Event: Self explanatory, name the event, something relevant that it can be referred too at any time, as a personal identification if you will.
Members Involved: Who is involved in the event? Is there anyone else on the forum assisting you or being directly aware of impacts that will effect them, post their names here.
Profile: Simple answer, High, Medium, Low profiles available as answers. Is the event a big one? Something relatively low-key? Either way, select it here so we have an idea of what scale you're talking about.
Description: The description of the event, in great detail. This is the make or break section, so make sure you pack this full of juicy information that allows us to make the decision quickly and efficiently.
Requirements: What is required for your application? If it involves an item, you'll have to apply for that separately here.
Once it has been reviewed, you'll be told of the decision via post, along with the condition. Every single event will have a condition. This is usually a role-play requirement to carry out the event. The condition could be a certain amount of role-play posts dedicated to preparation, or it could be that your character must be a lot stronger before being permitted to carry out the event, even if it's accepted on a preliminary basis, it may be that you need help from other members to carry out your plan, this is at the discretion of the moderator to set the condition, but this must be met before continuing with the role-play. Once it has been met, you must then reply with a link to the condition completion before posting the event occurring.
